Pallikoodam classes are held weekly on Sundays. We currently run 6 classes that are divided based on students’ regular school levels. Classes are taught almost entirely in Malayalam with English used only when needed.

Level 1 (For Year K- 1)
  • Introduction to the Malayalam language
  • Reading: Few alphabets and word pronunciation
  • Writing: Writing 12 simple alphabets through activities
  • Speaking: Communicate basic needs and simple ideas, recites simple rhymes
  • Listening: Listen and understand songs, stories, and Malayalam cartoons with a little help
Level 2 (For Year 2-3)
  • Introduction to Kerala culture
  • Learn all alphabets and simple communication skills
  • Reading: Recognition and pronunciation of all alphabets and few simple words
  • Writing: Formation of all alphabets (സ്വരങ്ങൾ, വ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങൾ & ചില്ലുകൾ) and simple word formation
  • Speaking: Express thoughts and ideas using full sentences, names of living and non-living things in Malayalam
  • Listening: Understand and respond to instructions in Malayalam, listens and repeats or retells an event or a story
Level 3 (For Year 4-6)
  • Understand Kerala map and festivals
  • Form complex word and develop simple communication skills in expressing emotions and needs
  • Reading: Recognize vowel signs and words pronunciation, and simple sentences
  • Writing: Formation and addition of vowel signs in simple words
  • Speaking: Communicate emotions, hold complete conversations in role-play activities, describe self and few objects
  • Listening: Listen and respond to a conversation, understand videos and cartoons

Level 4 (For Year 7-10)
  • Introduction to Kerala Literary Figures
  • Form simple sentences, hold discussions, and understand jokes and riddles.
  • Reading: Short stories, simple articles, and poems
  • Writing: Complex words and simple sentences
  • Speaking: Speak on an easy topic, hold discussions and ask questions
  • Listening: Understand jokes and riddles, listens to complex stories, and retells in their own words.

Level 5 (For Year 11 and above)
  • Explore Kerala history
  • Read and write independently and communicate confidently
  • Reading: Short novels, and slightly complex poems
  • Writing:  Write using complex sentence structures.
  • Speaking: Use idioms and phrases in conversation, hold deep conversations, discussions, and debates
  • Listening: Listen and understand intellectual conversations and videos
Level 6 (for adults)
  • This level is for adults that have Kerala ties or an interest in learning the language and culture of Kerala. We try our best to build a customized curriculum for such students to meet their personal language needs.
